RR of the Day: 1967 Chevy Camaro RS/SS

Kicking off Camaro Week for our RR of the Day feature's is Flickr member Kyler's 1967 Chevy Camaro RS/SS. Not only does this car exist in the upper echelon of Camaro annals, it also happened to be the subject of the very first piece of automotive journalism I ever penned, so it gets extra points from me for personal nostalgia. Though Kyler has performed many mods beneath the car's skin, the sheetmetal is nearly factory stock, as is the interior. This was a fantastic generation of Camaro design and Chevy was right on to use it as inspiration for the Bow Tie's pony car revival in 2009.
As we said, Kyler's made many mods to up the power and civility of this nearly 40 year old car, including a 385 stroker motor, Flowmaster exhaust, T56 transmission, MSD ignition system, 4.10 gears, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, and 17-inch wheels. He's been careful, however, to keep every part he's replaced tagged and stored in the garage, including the original engine. But Kyler promises he's not yet finished with his '67 Camaro RS/SS, and the car's suspension is the next on his to-do list.
Check out more pics and Kyler's complete mod list after the jump.
The theme for this week is Camaros! Everyone with a Camaro of note should submit his or her ride to our Flickr pool. We're starting to collect some nice Camaros in the pool right now, but we want to make sure the entire week is filled with interesting Camaros, not just your neighbor's '97 F-Body. Just follow the instructions after the jump to submit.

Upload up to three photos of your ride to your own account at a size no larger than 450 pixels wide if possible and include as much information about it and yourself as possible. Even if your ride is sweet, it will not be chosen if there's not a lot of info accompanying it. Click on each photo and just above the picture it will say "Send to group". Click that and select the Autoblog group. You're done, that's it!

Beautiful!
I for one am glad autoblog is doing weekly themes on the RR. Ignore all the haters. I thought the selection of last week's cars were great and I'm looking forward to this week's. Way to start it off.

Awesome car, one of my favorites of all time.
Is that an 8 series in his garage as well? That's the start of a nice little collection.

Nice...except for the interior and those blue stripes. The good thing for Camaro fans is that the prices are falling, so it is getting easier to attain one. I just hope this week isn't full of '69s--they've become an infestation.

#2, I noticed the 8 series in the garage as well.
That is a very nice Camaro. Shouldn't it also have an SS or RS emblem on the gas cap? Could we have a fake here?

You know you're a car geek when you recognize tailpipes and tailight patterns.

this is a true RS/SS...trust me... I was the 2nd registered owner and sold it to the present owner. Bought it from the original owner and took it out of his garage after it sat there for 17 years non-op. It's a great car...good work keeping it clean KY

Not bad. Not digging the MSD Ignition box on the fender well or the interior, but, it's still nicer than my Nova.
Figures most of these fools would be more interested in the BMW in the garage.

It's a shame that such a car has been made to look "ghetto" with all of the extra junk on it. The value would be a lot higher and it would be much more appealing if it were original.
Now it looks like it should be filled with latinos.

It does look a little "flamboyant."

Muscle cars don't belong on low-pro tires. End of story.
I saw a car almost like this (a little different color) being flatbedded down 85 this morning. It was on Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread GTs on proper (15"?) rims.
Like these pics:

Now that's a proper muscle car on proper rims and proper tires.
This RS/SS is beautiful, but it doesn't work for me on rims that are clearly 30 years too new.

It's not a muscle car. The Mustangs, Camaros, Cudas, etc. are pony cars.

nice SS. love it. and it appears in great shape. i understand what you all mean about the rims, but there is no denying they look great in the second pic. the old style wheels look great if that's what you want. this guy wanted more flash, i am not a chrome guy but I can understand that.

One of my favorite cars of all time! I would like to see it with a set of Cragar's! You put a BMW & muscle car next to each other and I am like... what BMW!

Sorry to sound negative. I have to commend the work that goes into fixing and maintaining a classic car liek this, but I just don't see what people see in these old clunkers.
Car Talk just rated the general class of 60's and 70s muscle cars on their Halloween list for top 10 scariest cars.
http://www.cars.com/go/advice/Story.jsp?section=top&story=topScary&subject=more
Their reasoning: Powerful engines on chassis, brakes and suspension made for pedestrian use... (And not todays pedestrian use, but that of the lat 60s!)
As they put it, they are on the top 10 list because they are scary for bystanders and other drivers. LOOK OUT!
(that and 60s-80s muscle cars have to be some of the ugliest vehicles ever made...)

1st-to Carlton-I'm sure plenty of people will be happy to see that you have openly displayed your blatant racism by speaking negatively about the car and then, in the same breath, saying that it looks like it should be filled with "latinos." Nice going--glad to see there are plenty of "you" still around
as for those who don't like the "Pro-Touring" look-well, the look is not for everyone, but, neither is the original look-PT is a huge movement as illustrated by the numerous mags, websites, and manufacturers dedicated specifically to this genre of vehicle...and, 15" cragars unfortunately don't fit with 12" rotors and 4 piston calipers...as for the statement that muscle cars are inherently dangerous--read about the car--it has 4 wheel 12" disk brakes that'll likely out stop whatever you're driving--it has modern wheels and tires and, once the owner completes the suspension, will outhandle most anything on the road--so, the argument is moot...

George:
That's really funny. I think I'd be the absolute opposite. Put a fancy high powered european sport sedan next to any muscle car and I wouldn't even notice the muscle car :p
